UPT Selected by METI as One of the Companies in the 2020 Global Niche Top Companies Selection 100
United Precision Technologies Co., Ltd. was selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as one of the companies in the 2020 Global Niche Top Companies Selection 100.
For the 2020 Global Niche Top Companies Selection 100, from the perspective of improving Japan’s international competitiveness, METI selected companies that are succeeding in niche fields in the face of harsh business environment changes such as (1) advances in the digital economy, (2) changes in global political and economic conditions, and (3) falling birth rates and population aging, as well as companies whose business includes components and materials of growing importance in international supply chains. By recognizing these companies with certifications and rewards, the program seeks to improve their profiles and support their overseas business, as well as to serve as a business compass for companies seeking to become the leaders of global sectors.
VCM springs are used in smartphone cameras, and our group has the no. 1 market share(*1) worldwide for VCM springs with optical image stabilizing systems, which are used in many high-end smartphones. Although the number of smartphones shipped worldwide has remained flat for the past few years, the product strategies by smartphone companies have led to stricter precision management in conjunction with components density rising due to advances in camera functionality, increases in image definition, and the use of multi-lens cameras, creating demand for fine high-precision processing in order to meet these performance requirements. In response to the increasingly technical demands from customers, we have continuously proposed solutions and made quality improvements, ultimately leading to our components being used primarily in the high-end smartphone models of global companies. We believe that we were selected for the Global Niche Top Companies Selection 100 in recognition of the results of our track record of solutions.
